Frequently asked questions
Why wont my Disks play?
Most disks fail to play because the bottom (non-label side) is either badly marked or scratched. This causes light from the laser to bounce around and makes it difficult or impossible for the player to read the digital pits where the information is stored. This will cause the disk to freeze, skip or jump.
How do I know whether you will be able to repair my disk?
With a success rate close to 99% it is most unlikely that we will not be able to repair your disk. The only disks that we cannot repair are those that are cracked, warped, or are so badly damaged that the data foil containing the digital pits has been pierced as a result of damage or where the disk has very heavy scratches to the label side which often results in the disk becoming irrepairable.
How many times can a disk be repaired?
The depth of an average disk is between 130 and 150 microns. Deep scratches require a surface skim of no more than 5-10 microns Thus in theory disks can be skimmed many times subject to the surface scratches not having damaged the digital integrity of the disk.
What is Scratch Busters procedure to ensure that my disk will play when it is returned to me?
All disks on receipt at the disk recovery unit are electronically tested to establish the degree of damage, after the skimming process they are again tested prior to dispatch.
What happens if you are unable to repair the disk?
The Scratch Busters promise of 'No fix, no fee' applies and a credit plus the damaged disk will be returned.
Will this process work on any format?
Yes this works on all Compact Disk (CD) and Digital Versatile Disks or Digital Video Disks (DVD).
How can I pay?
